Some GMRS Lingo

These are some basic lingo/commands that will make you sound like a pro.

  • Affirmative –  Means “Yes”, for use when answering a question.
  • Break – Pausing during a message, allowing you to key out, and then key back in to continue.
  • Clear –  Use when you are finished with the current conversation.
  • Copy – Use when acknowledging receipt of a message.
  • Go Ahead – You are ready to hear another person’s message.
  • Negative –  Means “No”.
  • Roger – Confirming receipt of a message and understanding it.  This is different from yes, affirmative, and/or an agreement.
  • This Is – You are initiating contact.
