This document describes scanner / radio frequencies, identifiers, and related terminology to help you when listening to the scanner for information about an incident.
A scanner can help you stay informed during an emergency situation. It is a critical tool especially for those who live in remote regions. It is highly recommended to not only rely on online scanners. If internet is unavailable you won’t be able to access online scanners, but a trusty handheld or mobile scanner with plenty of extra batteries, or a reliable power source, will still work.
Please feel free to add verified information to this document. If you do, try your best to follow the format. DO NOT add names of specific firefighters or other personnel.
How To Listen
Online
The benefit of online scanners is that the equipment used is generally high quality, and most scanner operators have an external antenna mounted on a mast that can better receive more transmissions than the common handheld scanner.
Using your web browser you can listen to local feeds via Broadcastify. There are also apps for mobile devices that will stream from Broadcastify.
